Retailers who recently decided to stay open on major U.S. holidays are doing themselves a disservice. You can bet that managers and exes further up the hierarchy are spending the entire day with family and friends, and you can bet that employees who prefer to be with their own families and friends know it. It is one thing to be asked to work a holiday when virtually everyone else in the country is at home, it is something entirely different to be ordered to work, especially when you have been led to believe that you will have the holiday off.
